Starfield Library

Starfield Library in Seoul's Gangnam-gu is a distinctive open-plan public reading space set inside the Starfield COEX Mall — a 2,800-square-meter atrium library with 13-meter-tall bookshelves holding roughly 50,000 books that has become one of Seoul's most photographed and Instagram-friendly cultural destinations since its 2017 opening. Operated by Shinsegae Property as a public-space contribution inside the COEX Mall retail complex, the library is free to visit and free to browse. The library's design combines active reading spaces (tables, chairs, and reading nooks scattered through the atrium) with the visual spectacle of the massive floor-to-ceiling bookshelves — most visitors come primarily for the atmospheric photo experience but the space does function as a genuine public library where visitors can read most books on-site (some display shelves are aesthetic-only; the working circulating collection is on lower reachable shelves). Free entry. Open the mall's operating hours (typically 10:30-22:00). Best on weekday afternoons for a quieter photo experience. Access: 5-minute walk from Samseong Station (Line 2, Exit 5-6) via COEX underground access. Pair with the broader COEX/Gangnam cluster including Bongeunsa Temple, COEX Aquarium, and the Gangnam shopping district.
