Sunchang Gochujang Village (순창고추장민속마을)
Sunchang Gochujang Village is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Sunchang Gochujang Folk Village is the dedicated traditional fermented chili paste village of Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do — a region that has produced Korea's most respected gochujang for at least 700 years thanks to a specific microclimate of clean water, cool stable air, and sunlight angle. The village clusters around 60 family workshops, each fermenting chili paste, soybean paste, and soy sauce in rows of dark earthen jars on outdoor terraces. Visitors can tour individual workshops, taste different recipes, and join hands-on chili-paste-making classes. A small museum traces the regional fermentation history. About two hours. Best in winter when the cold-weather fermentation step is visibly active.
