Susan Harbor is a working fishing port on the east coast of South Korea, set in Yangyang County, Gangwon-do, as the home base for a substantial East Sea fishing fleet targeting squid, mackerel, and (in season) the celebrated East Sea daegu (cod). The port's morning fish auctions (typically 3:00-6:00 in season) are one of the more atmospheric East-Sea working-port experiences accessible to travelers, and the surrounding retail seafood market runs through the day for casual visitors and Yangyang-area residents. Around the port edge, casual seafood restaurants serve the day's catch in raw (hoe), grilled (gui), and stewed (jjigae) forms — East Sea hairtail and East-Sea flounder are the local specialties, with typical hoe platters serving 3-4 people. The port also functions as a departure point for offshore fishing trips run by local charter operators, and small-scale whale-watching excursions run in the summer months.
