Suwon Hwaseong Special Tourist Zone (수원화성 관광특구)

Suwon Hwaseong Special Tourist Zone is a designated tourist district in central Suwon centered on the UNESCO World Heritage Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and the surrounding heritage area. The Special Tourist Zone designation gives the area regulatory status that supports tourism-and-cultural infrastructure investment, with the result being a coherent tourism cluster that includes the Hwaseong Fortress walls themselves, the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, the surrounding Haenggung-dong heritage neighborhood (with its mural-village walking circuit), traditional restaurants serving Suwon's signature galbi, hanok stays, and a variety of cultural-and-craft venues. The area is one of Korea's most coherent UNESCO-anchored tourism districts. Best given a full day, ideally with one hanok overnight to experience the Hwaseong area in its pre-dawn quiet, paired with the Hwaseong Fortress wall walk.
