Why go

Yeongnangho Lake Beombawi Rock is a famous tiger-shaped ("beom" means tiger in Korean) rock formation overlooking Yeongnang Lake on the eastern coast of Gangwon, near Sokcho. The rock takes its name from its silhouette — viewed from the right angle, the boulder cluster reads as a crouching tiger watching out over the lake. A short walking trail and viewing platform let visitors approach the rock from the lake side, with the broader Yeongnang Lake landscape (the lake is one of the East Coast's most distinct lagoon-style coastal lakes, separated from the East Sea by a narrow sand spit) framing the visit. Best at sunset for the strongest silhouette effect, paired with broader Sokcho-area itineraries that already include Seoraksan and the Sokcho coastal cluster.
