Yeongwol Jangneung Royal Tomb [UNESCO World Heritage]

Yeongwol Jangneung is the royal tomb of King Danjong, the sixth ruler of the Joseon dynasty, who was exiled and died in Yeongwol. Listed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty," the site stands on a forested hillside along the South Han River. Visitors can walk the stone-paved path leading to the burial mound, flanked by traditional stone figures and ritual structures. The attached shrine and exhibition space provide historical context about Danjong's tragic reign. The tranquil natural setting makes Jangneung one of Gangwon's more contemplative heritage sites.
