Yudal Recreation Area

Yudal Recreation Area is a public coastal recreation cluster on the seaside slopes of Yudalsan in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, set up as a small day-use park with picnic areas, a children's playground, and short walking paths threading between the lower slopes of the mountain and the harbor edge. The area sits inside Mokpo's broader Yudalsan park system and shares the headland's strong open-sea views: the West Sea, the Mokpo bridges (including the Mokpo Cable Car crossing to Gohado Island), and the city's working port are all in frame. Facilities are modest — basic restrooms, picnic shelters, parking — and the recreation area functions more as a casual local family park than a tourist destination. Free entry. The surrounding Yudalsan itself offers a proper ridge-walking experience: the main summit trail is about 90 minutes round trip, gaining roughly 230 meters of elevation over the ridge to Ildeungbawi (First Peak) with panoramic views out to the West Sea and back over the Mokpo old port district. The Ipam-dong colonial-era district at the base of the mountain preserves some of Mokpo's most distinctive early-20th-century architecture and hosts traditional tea houses and small galleries.
