Seoul night markets are seasonal — most run May through October, closed on rain days, and cluster around Han River access points. The confusion foreign visitors have is that "Bamdokkaebi Market" is a moving brand that appears in different locations across four weekends. Here is the actual 2026 schedule and which nights are worth the trip.

Bamdokkaebi Market (밤도깨비): rotating locations

Bamdokkaebi is the largest Seoul night market brand, run by the city government. It rotates between Yeouido Han River (Friday), Banpo (Saturday), and DDP (Sunday) through October. About 100 stalls per location, opening 18:00, closing 23:00. Free entry. The Yeouido edition is the largest and has the best sunset view — arrive by 17:30 to see the setup before the crowd fills in.

DDP Night Market: fixed location, higher-end

The Dongdaemun Design Plaza night market runs Friday and Saturday evenings, June through September. About 60 stalls, more design/craft-oriented than food, ₩5,000-15,000 per item. Convenient for foreign visitors staying near Dongdaemun. Sky view of the LED rose garden at DDP is the highest-return photo of the evening.

Ttukseom Han River Market

Ttukseom (Seoul Forest Station exit 3) runs a smaller but consistent night market May through October, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Fewer foreign visitors, more picnic-style. Good pairing with Seoul Forest daytime + market evening. Bring a blanket — most Han River-side markets do not provide seating.

What to eat and skip

Worth it: takoyaki, cheese tteokbokki, sundae grilled skewers, Korean-style pizza in a cup. Skip: overpriced fried chicken (₩10,000+ for what a chain sells at ₩18,000 for double portion), boba tea (better everywhere else), most fried desserts. Bring cash — many stalls do not accept card and QR-payment often fails on foreign phone numbers.

Night-market practical

  • Rain cancels most Han River markets — check the Seoul Info Portal (visitseoul.net) same day.
  • Cash preferred; ATMs are sparse near Han River — withdraw at the subway station before walking down.
  • Bring wet wipes; sink access is limited.
  • Yeouido Bamdokkaebi peak crowd is 20:00-21:30 — go before or after for photos.
  • Kids under 8 struggle after 21:00 in summer heat; day-market alternative is Gwangjang.
Do Seoul night markets run in winter?

No. The main season is May through October. December brings different indoor Christmas markets at Dongdaemun and Myeongdong.

Best night market for a solo traveler?

Yeouido Bamdokkaebi Friday — largest crowd density makes solo attendance comfortable.

Are night markets safe late?

Yes. Seoul is one of the safest late-night cities globally; Han River area police and subway last-train times both make late returns realistic.
