Gyeonggijeon Shrine (경기전)
Gyeonggijeon Shrine is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Gyeonggijeon Shrine is a Joseon-era royal shrine in central Jeonju, originally built in 1410 to enshrine the official portrait of King Taejo of Joseon — the founding monarch of the Joseon dynasty (Yi Seong-gye). Jeonju is the ancestral seat of the Yi royal house, which made the city a particularly significant location for housing King Taejo's portrait. The compound includes the main shrine hall (Gyeonggijeon proper) where the portrait was historically enshrined, side support buildings, an interpretive museum on the King Taejo portrait and the Joseon royal-portrait tradition, and a small bamboo grove and ceremonial space. The shrine sits inside the Jeonju Hanok Village walking circuit, which makes it a natural anchor for any Jeonju visit. Best as a half-day stop combined with the Jeonju Hanok Village walking circuit and Jeondong Cathedral.
