Gangneung Solhyang Arboretum on the slopes of Daegwallyeong above Gangneung is a public arboretum dedicated to Korean native pine ("sol") and broader conifer species. The 38-hectare grounds combine themed planting beds covering Korean pine varieties, a Japanese-pine and broader conifer comparison section, walking trails through dense pine forest, and a glass conservatory. The arboretum's elevation gives it noticeably cooler air through summer and an extended autumn-foliage season into early November. Free entry. Bilingual interpretation. About 2 hours for a casual walk. Pair with the Daegwallyeong Sky Ranch or other Pyeongchang highland attractions.
