Why go

Oeam Folk Village is a preserved Joseon-era village in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, where about 60 traditional thatched-and-tiled houses still stand in their original layout — narrow earth-walled lanes, stone-bordered streams running past house gates, and ancestral shrines on the village edges. The village has been officially designated as a Folklore Cultural Heritage and remains a working residential community, with descendants of the founding Yean Lee clan continuing to live in many of the historic houses. Visitors can walk through the village lanes during open hours, peek into open courtyards (with respect for residents' privacy), visit a few houses opened as small interpretive displays, and see the still-functioning ancestral shrine. Best given a half-day, ideally with one overnight in a working hanok stay to experience the village's pre-dawn quiet.
