Suncheonman National Garden

Suncheon Bay National Garden in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, is Korea's first nationally designated garden — a 1.12-square-kilometer landscape garden complex completed for the 2013 International Garden Expo and formally designated National Garden No. 1 in August 2015. The grounds combine 11 themed international gardens (representing 13 countries' garden-design traditions, from Japanese to Dutch to French formal to Spanish), substantial Korean traditional landscape sections, a wetland-adjacent area connecting to the broader Suncheon Bay reserve via the SkyCube monorail, and an iconic dome-shaped greenhouse featuring tropical and Mediterranean plant collections. Note: the National Garden and the separate Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve are often confused — the garden is a 1.12 km² designed landscape, while the wetland is a 35.5 km² Ramsar-designated tidal-flat reserve. Both are worth visiting, and both are connected by the SkyCube monorail on an integrated ticket. The garden anchors Suncheon's broader eco-tourism positioning. Allow a half day for full coverage. Best in spring through autumn for the full plant range, particularly the April tulips and September-October chrysanthemum displays.
