Anseongmatchum Namsadang Baudeogi Festival is the largest annual celebration of Korea's namsadang tradition — male itinerant troupe arts associated with the legendary nineteenth-century female leader Baudeogi, who led an Anseong-based troupe to fame. The festival fills Anseong's central park with samulnori, jultagi tightrope, mask dance, and acrobatic ensemble performances, alongside crafts and workshops where visitors can try simple pungmul instruments. Compared to the regular Anseong commercial namsadang shows, the festival format is bigger, more international, and includes guest troupes from abroad. It is the strongest single weekend to engage with this UNESCO-recognised performance tradition in its original hometown.
