Jeju 2-Day Healing Itinerary 2026 (Slow Pace, Black-Rock Coast)
Sunrise at Seongsan, Olle Trail coast walks, Aewol cafes, black-pork dinner. A 2026 HEAL-coded weekend with verified flight, ferry, and entry prices.
Jeju Island operates differently from the mainland — slower, windier, green and black, salt and citrus. A 2-day HEAL itinerary for travelers who want to reset without losing the best scenery. Gimpo→Jeju is the most-flown domestic route in the world (~1 hour, ₩40,000–80,000 on LCCs like Jeju Air, Jin Air, T'way), so a true Friday-evening to Sunday-night escape from Seoul is realistic.
Day 1 — east-coast sunrise and Olle Trail
Land at Jeju International Airport (JJU) and head east. Pick up your rental car here — Jeju airport rental is the cheapest hub on the island (₩60,000–100,000 per day for compact). Foreign drivers must show an International Driving Permit issued before arrival. First stop: Seongsan Ilchulbong, a UNESCO-listed volcanic crater that juts into the sea. The 20-minute climb is moderate; entry is ₩5,000, open from sunrise to sunset.
Afternoon: walk a section of Olle Trail Route 1 from Seongsan toward Kwangchigi Beach — flat, windswept, mostly empty even on weekends. The trail runs 15km in full but the first 5km section gives the same coastal mood. Dinner at Seopjikoji or back in Seongsan: the local specialty is grilled mackerel and abalone porridge (jeonbok-juk, ₩15,000–20,000). Sleep in Seongsan or move west to Jeju City for Day 2.
Day 1 stops
Day 2 — west-coast cafes and a quiet dinner
Cross the island to Aewol on the west side — about 90 minutes by car or 2.5 hours via the 100/200-series airport bus. The coastal cafes here have become the image of Jeju online; pick one with ocean seating and slow-pour coffee (Bonté, Monsant, Anthracite are the photographed names). Set aside 2 hours minimum — these are destination cafes, not quick stops. Coffee runs ₩7,000–12,000.
Late afternoon: black-rock coast walk near Hyeopjae Beach (white sand, turquoise water, surreal contrast with black volcanic rocks). Dinner: black-pork BBQ at any well-reviewed spot in Jeju City — Heukdon-geori (Black-Pork Alley) is a dedicated cluster of 20+ restaurants. Average ₩45,000–60,000 for two with sides. Hallabong tangerines (₩10,000–15,000 per box) make a popular take-home gift; airport check-in counters hold them for the flight back.
Getting around the island
Jeju buses work but are slow — 25–35% of journey time is waiting. Most visitors rent a car; an International Driving Permit is mandatory and must be issued in your home country before arrival. Korea does not issue IDPs to tourists. Taxi-hailing via Kakao T works smoothly with English UI. Average island-wide taxi fare: ₩25,000 per trip; airport to Aewol is ₩30,000–40,000 metered.
Jeju 2026 tips
- Bring a wind layer — coast wind stays strong even in summer (15–25 knots typical).
- Peak canola flowers: late March to mid-April. Cherry blossoms peak around April 5–10. Hallasan azaleas: late May.
- Cafes often do not take reservations — arrive 30 min before or after lunch rush (12–1 p.m.) for best seating.
- Hallasan Mountain hiking permits required for Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails — book free at visitjeju.net 1 month ahead.
- Jeju black pork: certified shops display a black-pig logo; the meat is naturally darker and fattier than mainland pork.
- Don't drive through 'middle mountain' fog without daytime running lights — visibility drops fast at 600–900m elevation.
Is Jeju doable without a car?
For a 2-day east/west loop, bus + Kakao T taxi works. Split the island east/west so you are not crossing the center twice. For a 3-day full loop or remote Olle Trail sections, a rental car saves substantial time.
Do I need a permit for Seongsan Ilchulbong?
No — just a ₩5,000 entry fee. Open from sunrise to sunset year-round, with an extra dawn opening for sunrise viewing (typically opens 90 minutes before sunrise; check the official Jeju tourism site for current schedule).
How do I get to Jeju from Seoul?
Domestic flights from Gimpo (GMP) take 1 hour, ₩40,000–80,000 on LCCs like Jeju Air, Jin Air, T'way. Incheon (ICN) flights also exist but are pricier. Ferry from Mokpo or Wando takes 4–5 hours and runs daily.
Is Jeju safe for solo female travelers?
Yes — Jeju has very low crime rates and many solo-friendly cafes and stays. Hallasan and Olle Trails are well-marked; trail-by-trail safety reports are published on visitjeju.net.
