Why go

Yeongok Valley is a long, granite-bedded valley running northwest of Gangneung in Gangwon, fed by clear cold mountain water that drops through a series of polished pools and cascades. The valley is well-known among Gangwon locals for cold-water summer soaking and trout fishing, and the lower section is gentle enough for family wading while the upper sections require some scrambling. A car road follows the valley for several kilometers, with pull-outs at the better pools, and a hiking trail continues toward Odaesan-side ridges. Basic camping and pension stays cluster along the road. Best in mid-July through August for water temperature. Pair with Sokcho or Gangneung beaches.
