Why go

Nam-i Janggun Shrine in Seoul honors Nam-i (1441–1468), a Joseon-era general who became a household name in Korean cultural memory for his military success against northern frontier tribes during the reign of King Sejo and his eventual political execution in his late twenties on a likely fabricated treason charge. The shrine is a small fenced compound containing a single ancestral hall, an offering pavilion, and a stele with the general's biographical inscription, and annual memorial rites are still held by descendants and a community-organized association. Inscriptions and panels are largely in Korean. Best for travelers already curious about the political turbulence of the early Joseon court rather than first-time sightseers, and pairs naturally with broader central-Seoul historic walks.
