Why go

The Garden of Morning Calm is one of Korea's most-celebrated private botanical gardens, set in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, on the slopes of Mt. Chukryeongsan. Founded in 1996 by horticulturist Han Sang-kyung as a private project, the garden now spans about 30,000 m² with thirty themed botanical zones — including a Korean traditional garden, a sunken garden, a hill-of-mother garden, the famous Heaven Garden with its dramatic flower-display arrangement, and supporting greenhouse-and-display infrastructure. The garden is widely cited as one of Korea's premier botanical-tourism destinations and is most striking during the spring flower season (April through May), the autumn chrysanthemum season (October), and especially the famous Lighting Festival (winter through early spring) when the garden is illuminated with millions of LED lights. Pairs naturally with broader Gapyeong-area itineraries (Nami Island is nearby).
