Jeju Gotjawal Provincial Park is a designated provincial park preserving Jeju's distinctive "gotjawal" forest type — a unique forest ecosystem that grows on volcanic basalt outcrops where the substrate is too rocky for normal soil formation. Gotjawal hosts an unusually high mix of subtropical and temperate species growing side-by-side, and supports several endangered Korean species. The park combines a network of walking trails through the forest, an interpretive visitor center, and bilingual interpretation explaining the ecology. Jeju gotjawal is part of the broader UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Geoparks designation for Jeju. Free entry. Best in spring and autumn. About 2 hours.
