Why go

Jinju Lee Seong-ja Art Museum is a city-run art museum in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, dedicated to the work of Lee Seong-ja (1918–2009), a major Korean painter who spent most of her career in Paris but maintained a strong connection to her Korean roots and to her hometown of Jinju. Lee's work moved between abstract painting, calligraphic mark-making, and color-field-style canvases, and she was one of the first Korean women painters to establish an international career in postwar Europe. The museum holds a substantial body of her donated works, alongside personal materials, photographs, and rotating exhibitions that contextualize her work within both Korean and European modernism. The building is a contemporary white-cube structure on the Jinju cultural-park grounds and pairs with broader Jinju cultural day-trip itineraries.
