Why go

Jisimdo Island is a small inhabited island off Geoje in Gyeongsangnam-do, famous in Korea for its dense camellia (dongbaek) tree forests that turn brilliant red during the late-winter and early-spring blooming season. The island spans a small area of densely forested terrain with mature camellia trees forming the dominant canopy, with walking paths threading the camellia forest, viewing decks at coastal points, and small clusters of fishing-village settlements. The combination of the island's relative isolation, the dense camellia canopy in bloom, and the surrounding South Sea landscape has made Jisimdo one of Korea's most-cited camellia-blooming destinations. Reachable by ferry from Geoje. Best timed precisely to the December-through-March camellia blooming season.
