Why go

Eoreumgol Valley is a unique cold-air valley in Cheongsong UNESCO Global Geopark, where rock-shaded fissures release sub-zero air through summer and ice persists in deep crevices into July. Walking the half-kilometer trail from the parking area, summer visitors feel the air temperature drop by 10 degrees within meters of the cooling vents, an effect explained at the small geopark interpretive center. The phenomenon is caused by warm summer air being cooled as it passes through the talus slope's deep cold-trap structure. Most striking June through August. Best in mid-morning before the sun heats the valley floor. Pair with the Juwangsan National Park hike for a full Cheongsong day.
