Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park

Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park is a public mountain park in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, set on Mt. Naeyeonsan with the historic Bogyeongsa Temple as its cultural anchor. The park combines marked hiking trails through dense pine and broadleaf cover, the Bogyeongsa Temple compound (founded in 602 CE during the Silla period as a working Buddhist mountain temple and still operating as an active monastery), the famous Naeyeonsan Twelve Waterfalls hiking circuit (a series of twelve numbered waterfalls cascading down the valley, connected by a marked path that runs about 4 km one-way from the temple), and viewing decks at scenic points. Spring brings new green growth and azaleas along the trails, summer the strongest cooling effect from the canopy and waterfalls (the valley is 5-8°C cooler than the coast), autumn the full ridge color layered over the granite cliffs. Bogyeongsa itself holds several designated Buddhist Treasures including its stone pagoda, and the walking route from temple to twelfth waterfall (Yeonsanpokpo) is one of the most-celebrated forest-and-waterfall hikes in southeastern Korea. Allow a full day for the temple + twelve waterfalls circuit; the round trip runs about 6-7 hours at a reflective pace.
