Dokdo Observatory Cable Car

Dokdo Observatory Cable Car is a cable-car system on Ulleungdo Island in Gyeongsangbuk-do, set up to carry visitors up to a hilltop observatory that, on exceptionally clear days, provides direct visual views toward Dokdo — the disputed pair of small islands about 87 km southeast of Ulleungdo whose Korean sovereignty is one of the most politically-sensitive issues in Korea-Japan relations. The cable car gives visitors elevated views back across Ulleungdo's coastal landscape, with the observatory deck providing the symbolic-and-practical vantage point for Dokdo viewing. Dokdo is too far to actually see on most days, but the symbolic connection makes the destination significant. Best paired with broader Ulleungdo-and-Dokdo itineraries.
