Why go

Gamcheon Valley is a granite-bedded ravine on the southern flank of Jirisan in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, with a 5-kilometer stream-side trail through dense pine and oak forest that follows the stream up past polished pools, sequenced cascades, and a final upper waterfall. The water is famously clear and cold even in mid-summer thanks to the elevation, and the valley is one of the more scenic stream walks on Jirisan's southern access. Most visitors are local residents and serious slow-travel hikers rather than mainstream tourists, which keeps the visitor count low. Best in mid-summer for cold-water wading and autumn for foliage. Allow about 3 hours for the round trip. Pair with the broader Jirisan southern flank attractions like Ssanggyesa Temple.
