Why go

Joseon Hyojong Yeongneung Jaesil in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do, is the official memorial-rite preparation building of Yeongneung — the royal tomb of King Hyojong (1619–1659) of the Joseon dynasty. The jaesil served as a working space where royal-rite officials prepared the seasonal ancestral memorial rites performed at the king's tomb above. The compound combines a substantial wooden ceremonial hall with kitchen and storage outbuildings, all preserved as a designated cultural property. The building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site (the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty). Bilingual interpretation explains the Joseon royal-rite system. About 45 minutes for the jaesil; longer if including King Sejong's adjacent tomb. Pair with the Sejong-Hyojong joint royal tomb walk.
