Why go

Upo Wetland Eco Center in Changnyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, is the dedicated public visitor center on Upo Wetland — Korea's largest natural inland wetland and a Ramsar Convention site. The wetland covers about 8.5 square kilometers of marsh and shallow water habitat formed by the Nakdonggang river system, supporting over 1,200 documented species including endangered crested ibis (which were successfully reintroduced from the Chinese population starting 2008), white-naped cranes, otters, and a substantial fish-and-amphibian community. The eco center combines a substantial natural-history museum with bilingual interpretation, observation decks looking over the wetland, and walking paths through the marsh. Free entry. Best in early spring or late autumn for migratory bird watching. Allow about 3 hours including the walking trail. Pair with broader Changnyeong area attractions.
