Why go

Hanbyeokdang in Jeonju is a designated Joseon-era pavilion on a stream-side cliff at the eastern edge of Jeonju Hanok Village, originally built in 1404 as a literary retreat for the Jeonju local scholar class and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The wooden structure sits on a stone platform above a sharp bend in the Jeonjucheon stream, with substantial views down to the water and across to the Hanok Village rooftops. The pavilion was used for poetry composition and contemplative reading, with several Joseon-era literary works composed here. Free entry. About 45 minutes. Pair with the broader Jeonju Hanok Village walking tour.
